About the BASF South Africa Trust Bursary 2027

Who Can Apply for the BASF Bursary?

To be considered for the BASF Bursary, applicants must meet all the specified eligibility criteria. These include being a South African citizen, identifying as female, and belonging to a Black group as defined by BBBEE codes (African, Coloured, and Indian applicants). Applicants must also be currently completing Matric in 2026 or have already finished Matric.

Further requirements include studying or intending to study towards an eligible Undergraduate or Honours qualification in Chemistry, Engineering, or an eligible Science field at a recognised South African tertiary institution. Applicants must demonstrate financial need, with a combined household income not exceeding R630,000 per annum. A strong academic record and no criminal record are also necessary. Additionally, applicants cannot be receiving another bursary or scholarship for the 2027 academic year.

Who Will Not Qualify?

Certain applicants will not be eligible for this bursary. This includes students pursuing Master’s or PhD degrees, as well as those in Medical Sciences or Economic Sciences. Applicants with a household income above R630,000 per year are also excluded. Furthermore, individuals already benefiting from another bursary or scholarship for 2027 will not qualify. All other citizenship, gender, BBBEE, academic, and general eligibility requirements must also be met.

Documents Required

Applicants must prepare and submit several supporting documents with their online application. These include a certified copy of your South African ID and your Matric certificate or results. You will also need a certified copy of your full academic record, including your most recent results, and proof of university acceptance.

Proof of parents’ or guardians’ income is required, which may include the latest payslips if employed, audited financial statements if self-employed, an affidavit if unemployed, or proof of government grants or pensions. A curriculum vitae (CV) of no more than three pages is also necessary. Ensure all submitted documents are clear and correctly uploaded, as missing compulsory documents can lead to disqualification.

BASF Bursary Selection Process

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by the Trust and may be asked to provide further information. The selection process may also include an interview. Applicants who do not hear back from the Trust after the application period should assume their application was unsuccessful.

BASF Bursary Closing Dates

There are two distinct closing dates for applications, depending on your current academic status. Current tertiary students must submit their applications by 15 January 2027.
