Programme Duration and Location

The learnership programme has a maximum duration of 3 years. This period will continue until the candidate obtains the relevant trade qualification, or the three years are completed, whichever comes first. The learnership will take place at the Ivanplats Platreef Mine, located near Mokopane in the Limpopo Province of South Africa.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for the Ivanplats Artisan Learnership Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen or permanent RSA resident.
  • Have completed Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Achieved a minimum of 60% in Mathematics at Matric level.
  • Achieved a minimum of 60% in Physical Science at Matric level.
  • Possess an N2 qualification in Engineering Studies.
  • Have at least 2 years of working experience as an Artisan Assistant.

Competencies Required

In addition to the minimum qualifications, candidates should possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Willingness to work both underground and on surface as required.
  • Ability to pass the relevant medical fitness examination.
  • Willingness to undergo required capability assessments.
  • Commitment to participating in mining-related workplace training.
  • Meeting the specific requirements associated with the chosen artisan trade.

Who Should Apply?

This learnership is ideal for unemployed South African citizens or permanent residents who have a strong academic background in Mathematics and Physical Science, coupled with an N2 qualification and practical experience. It is particularly suited for individuals eager to build a career as a qualified artisan in the mining sector. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South Africans (HDSA) from the local communities surrounding the Platreef Mine. Women are also strongly encouraged to apply.
