Eligibility Requirements for the Rhodes Global Scholarship

To be considered for the Rhodes Global Scholarship, applicants must meet specific criteria related to nationality, age, and academic achievement.

Nationality and Age

Applicants can only apply for the Global Scholarships if they are not eligible to apply through any existing Rhodes constituency. If an applicant has a strong connection to a specific Rhodes constituency but does not meet its criteria, they should explore interjurisdictional consideration rather than the Global Scholarship.

Regarding age, applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Be between 18 and 24 years old on October 1, 2026. This means being born after October 1, 2002, and before October 2, 2008.
  • For medical students with a compulsory professional internship, the age range is 18 to 25 years old on October 1, 2026, meaning being born after October 1, 2000, and before October 2, 2008.
  • For older candidates who completed their first undergraduate degree later than usual, they must be under 27 years old on October 1, 2026 (born after October 1, 1999) and must have completed their first undergraduate degree on or after October 1, 2024. The university’s policy determines the degree completion date, which may differ from the award date or graduation ceremony.

Academic Achievement

Applicants must have completed, or be expected to complete by July 2026, an undergraduate degree. Their academic record must meet or exceed the specific entry requirements for their chosen course at the University of Oxford. Candidates with a First Class Honors Degree or equivalent, or a GPA of 3.70/4.0 or higher, generally have a better chance of admission.

Benefits of the Rhodes Global Scholarship

The Rhodes Scholarship covers all tuition fees at Oxford University and provides an annual stipend. For the 2026-27 academic year, the stipend is £20,400 per year, which is approximately £1,700 per month. This amount is intended to cover all living expenses, including accommodation. It is important to note that this stipend is not sufficient to support partners or dependents.

In addition to tuition and living expenses, the Rhodes Trust also covers:

  • The fee required to apply to study at the University of Oxford.
  • Fees for a student visa and the associated International Health Surcharge (IHS), which grants access to the UK’s National Health Service.
