Idaho State Police Transfer 30 More Immigrants to ICE Under 287(g) Program

Idaho State Police recently transferred 30 more immigrants to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody for deportation. This action is part of Governor Brad Little’s “Operation No Return.” These individuals were transferred from Idaho correctional facilities to ICE detention centers after completing their criminal sentences.

This operation aims to remove convicted individuals from Idaho communities rather than releasing them. The latest transfer brings the total number of individuals moved under this initiative to 130. The program utilizes Idaho’s agreement with ICE under the 287(g) program, which allows state and local agencies to assist federal authorities with specific immigration enforcement tasks.

The individuals transferred to ICE custody had been convicted of various crimes. These offenses include child sexual abuse, drug trafficking, assault, and driving under the influence (DUI). Governor Little’s office has described these individuals as “dangerous illegal alien criminals” who will be deported to their home countries.

Operation No Return focuses on shifting custody of these individuals directly to ICE upon completion of their sentences. This process ensures they are not released back into Idaho communities. The Idaho State Police plays a direct role in transporting these individuals from state prisons and county jails to ICE detention facilities.

The 287(g) program enables this cooperation between state law enforcement and federal immigration authorities. While Idaho State Police are involved in the transfer, ICE handles the subsequent detention and deportation proceedings. This partnership highlights how immigration enforcement can extend beyond federal agents alone.

The rationale behind Operation No Return, as presented by state officials, centers on criminal convictions and removal from Idaho. By citing serious offenses like child sexual abuse and drug trafficking, the administration emphasizes the program’s focus on public safety and the deportation of individuals who have committed crimes. The accumulation of transfers under this operation demonstrates its ongoing nature.
