Program Overview

The 1834 Global Fellowship includes several key activities designed to foster growth and learning:

• 1834 Global Mixers: These are weekly facilitated sessions that expose Fellows to a wide range of global issues and leadership challenges. They are designed to strengthen personal and professional competencies through critical dialogue and reflection on diplomacy, governance, advocacy, and policy design.
• 1834 Global Research Projects: Fellows work in policy teams on research projects related to real-world global issues. Each team is assigned an experienced Coach, an expert in global affairs, who provides mentorship and guidance to help Fellows develop strategic thinking and communication skills.
• 1834 Global Summit: The fellowship concludes with a high-impact summit. This event brings together public policymakers, analysts, nonprofit leaders, and engaged Black youth. Fellows present their research, gain professional exposure, and connect with institutions shaping global policy, all while highlighting Black leadership.

Minimum Requirements

To be eligible for the 1834 Global Fellowship, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Be aged between 20 and 30 years old.
• Identify as Black or of African descent.
• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
• Have a strong interest in a career in international development, diplomacy, or Canadian foreign policy.
• Be committed to participating in the 9-week virtual program, which requires approximately 3.5 hours per week.
• Be willing and able to travel for the final in-person Summit.
