United Airlines is bringing back direct flights from Houston to Caracas after an eight-year pause. Starting August 11, 2026, the airline will offer daily nonstop service between George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston and Simón Bolívar International Airport in Caracas. This move uses Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes and targets business travelers, especially those in the oil industry.

Why the Flights Were Suspended

United Airlines ran Houston-Caracas flights for over 20 years before stopping them in June 2017. At that time, Venezuela faced a deep economic and political crisis. Demand dropped, and the route could not cover costs. In 2019, the U.S. government added a ban on direct commercial flights to Venezuela for safety reasons. This left travelers with few options, often needing connections through other countries.

Recent changes in U.S. policy opened the door for a return. On April 17, 2026, the Department of Homeland Security noted that conditions in Venezuela had improved enough to lift the flight restrictions. The Department of Transportation then ended the 2019 order. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy welcomed the news. He said the flights support stronger ties between the U.S. and Venezuela, especially in energy production.

New Flight Schedule and Details

The service starts on August 11, 2026, with tickets already available on United’s website and app. Final approval from governments is still needed. Flight UA1046 departs Houston at 11:45 p.m. and lands in Caracas at 5:30 a.m. the next day. That trip takes 4 hours and 45 minutes. The return flight, UA1045, leaves Caracas at 8:00 a.m. and arrives in Houston at 12:30 p.m., a flight of 5 hours and 30 minutes. The route spans 2,260 miles.

This timing fits United’s overnight flights from its Houston hub. Houston serves as a major gateway to Latin America, with up to 100 daily flights to over 50 destinations in the region. Passengers can connect from there to more than 180 cities worldwide.

The Boeing 737 MAX 8 Aircraft

United chose the Boeing 737 MAX 8 for this route. The plane has 166 seats: 16 in first class, which acts as business class on international trips, and 150 in economy. Each seat comes with a screen that connects via Bluetooth. Travelers can watch content from Apple TV and HBO Max.

The narrow-body jet suits the under-six-hour flight length. It keeps costs down while offering comfort for the overnight schedule southbound and morning return northbound.

Impact on Energy Workers and Business Travel

These flights fill a key need for oil sector workers. Houston is a center for energy companies, and Venezuela holds major oil reserves. The U.S. and Venezuela aim to boost production together, creating jobs and economic growth. Secretary Duffy called the route “critical” for moving workers in and out.

United joins American Airlines as the second U.S. carrier flying to Caracas. American restarted service from Miami earlier. Together, they restore direct links that vanished years ago. For Houston, this adds Caracas to a busy Latin America map.

What Travelers Should Know

Book early, as demand may rise with the energy focus. Check United’s site for updates on approvals. The route brings back a connection that served travelers for decades. It matches current needs in business and energy.

Conclusion

United Airlines’ return to Caracas from Houston marks a fresh start after years of absence. With daily Boeing 737 MAX 8 flights from August 11, 2026, the route supports oil workers, business ties, and easier travel. This step reflects improved U.S.-Venezuela relations and opens new options from United’s Houston hub.
